Artist workshop - Lexy Liangzi Xiao with Björkö residency 15 August 2026
The darkrooms and the artists taking part in the Darkroom Exchange residency program will offer workshops in sustainable photography during the residency period.
Artist Lexy Liangzi Xiao (N/CH) is visiting Björkö Kunstnod outside of Stockholm, Sweden in August.
She will offer the workshop “Silver Mirroring Toning” at Björkö Kunstnod darkroom 15.August 2026.

Björkö Konstnod presents a two day hands-on workshop led by artist-in-residence Lexy Liangzi Xiao, part of the Nordic Analogue Network.
This workshop introduces an experimental technique of Silver Mirroring Toning on B&W darkroom prints. It is suitable for participants with basic B&W printing skills who wish to explore a rarely taught process that transforms silver mirroring—from a type of photographic decay—into a striking metallic and aesthetic effect.
In this two-day workshop, participants will make B&W prints from their own negatives, learn the steps of Direct and Indirect Silver Mirroring Toning processes, gain insight into necessary chemicals, materials, and the silver mirroring phenomenon, and practice the technique under the guidance of an experienced instructor.
Lexy Liangzi Xiao is an artist and researcher living and working in Bergen, Norway, originally from Beijing. She holds an MFA in Fine Art from the Art Academy in Bergen and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Photography from Camberwell College of Arts. She plays a central role in the artist-run darkroom Fotoverkstedet in Bergen. Lexy has developed the Silver Mirroring Toning recipes and processes, and has extensive experience in experimental analogue photography, handmade artist’s books, and teaching workshops at different levels. Her work has been exhibited widely in Norway and internationally.
During her residency, Xiao is continuing her experimental research into the chemical workings of this photographic processes that, bringing a new three dimensional visual experience to the flat image image surface.

Day 1- Direct Silver Mirroring Toning: Saturday, 15th Aug, 13:00-17:00
Day 2- Indirect Silver Mirroring Toning: Sunday, 16th Aug, 10:00-14:00

Requirements
Participants must bring their own negatives for B&W printing. Ready-made B&W darkroom prints on RC or FB paper are welcome for Day 2, and participants may also bring their own RC or FB paper for printing (all up to 10×8", RC Pearl recommended).
