Artist workshop - Theo Elias with CYAN studio residency 25 August 2026

The darkrooms and the artists taking part in the Darkroom Exchange residency program will offer workshops in sustainable photography during the residency period.

Artist Theo Elias (S) is visiting CYAN studio in Oslo, Norway in August.
He will offer the workshop “Photobook: tips&advice” at CYAN studio darkroom 25.August 2026.

CYAN studio presents a one evening workshop led by artist-in-residence Theo Elias, part of the Nordic Analogue Network.

This workshop looks at the photobook as a project exhibition and how to make the final publication work as a communicator of the project.
The different aspects of making a photobook, the process of editing, sequencing and choosing images for it, and the final design, will all be discussed.
Each participant´s project will be reviewed and given feedback and advice on how to proceed towards a publication.

Theo Elias is an artist and curator based in Stockholm. He has an MFA in photography from Akademiet Valand in Gothenburg and has studied photojournalism at the Nordic School of Photography after assisting the Swedish photographer Anders Petersen. He mainly works within the genre of personal documentary, has published 4 photobooks and was awarded the Photo London & La Fabrica Dummy Award (2019), shortlisted for the Swedish Photo Book Award (2020) and the Lucie Photo Book Award (2021)

During his residency, Theo Elias will continue work on his long term project “Poppy” and experiment and develop his printing process that includes a lot of variations in printing method.

Practical information
Discussion of work with editing and sequencing, book format and how to make the difficult decicions.
Review of participants photo projects with individual feedback.
Teaching in Swedish/English 

Requirements
Participants must bring their own photoproject, preferrably as small work prints or alternatively on their own digital device.
